Came to the U.S. on a ship from Ireland sometime before 1760 with his 
three sons.  I have heard rumours that they originated in Wales and that
only the ship came from Ireland, but can not confirm.  All other children
he may have had (including Rachael, David, Samuel, & Joseph Jr.) were born
here.

1720 and 1730 seem to be the most frequent years listed for his birth,
though there is one account of 1740.
